The 7th Annual Battle At Boxwood took place on Saturday July 22, 2017 at Boxwood Gulch Ranch in Shawnee, CO. The Battle at Boxwood is an annual event that serves as both a fishing tournament and a fundraiser for Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc and the veterans they serve. This annual event is a 1 day competition comprising of 10 four-man teams (each including a professional guide, sponsor, sports or entertainment celebrity, and two PHWFF veteran participants). Thanks to the generosity of the Mauritz family and Boxwood Gulch, the event takes place on a private section of the South Platte River — a beautiful, restorative, fish-filled environment. Opportunities for rainbow, brown, cutthroat, cutbow, and brook trout are abundant, with trout averaging 16” – 22” on the 3 mile stretch of water offered by Boxwood Gulch Ranch. The top 3 teams are determined by the teams total length of trout landed.
The Battle at Boxwood was founded by Steve Payne, a business executive and retired NHL player, who spent 10 years with the Minnesota North Stars (now the Dallas Stars). In his words, “Supporting our military is important to me, so I spend a lot of time doing so. With help from some generous, caring friends, I created the Battle at Boxwood event now in it’s seventh year. The event supports the wonderful organization, Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF), by raising money and getting recovering wounded warriors on the water for a day of trout fishing with sports celebrities from the NHL, NFL and MLB.”
The All American Beef Battalion is proud to be The PHWFF Battle at Boxwood’s lunch sponsor. It is truly a blessing to serve all of those involved with this great event a big, juicy rib eye, sides, dessert and, rumor has it, the Steaks for troops crew even fried up some Rocky Mtn. Oysters this year! We’re proud to say we’ve been the lunch sponsor for this incredible event since the beginning and we’re already planning for next year’s Battle At Boxwood!
